In a press release sent this evening, the regional executive said that “all passengers with tax residence in the Azores can proceed to book airline tickets for the price of up to 60 euros for all trips to be made from June 1st between any two islands in the Azores”.

Reservations can now be made, through the airline that guarantees air transportation in the archipelago, SATA Air Açores, or through travel agencies, and “passengers who have already purchased a ticket at the standard resident fare for inter-island trips to be made from of June 1 (and who have not yet started their travels), may request a refund of the differential for the 'Tarifa Açores' ”, explains the statement.

This initiative, which was one of the great pledges of the PSD, CDS-PP and PPM coalition government since taking office, was announced on March 31 by the regional secretary for Transport, Tourism and Energy, Mário Mota Borges, who guaranteed that the measure would be “ready to start” on the 1st of June.

Its implementation had been awaiting the promulgation of the Azores Plan and Budget by the Representative of the Republic.
