According to the DGS daily epidemiological bulletin, 1,400 people are hospitalised today, 42 more than on Tuesday, while in intensive care units there are 90 patients, minus six, although not all hospitalisations are due to Covid-19.

The number of active cases rose today to 473,541, 8,129 more than on Tuesday, and in the last 24 hours 679 people were reported to have recovered, for a total of 2,787,805 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Of the 25 deaths, nine took place in the North region, another nine in the Centre, three in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, another three in the Autonomous Region of Madeira and one in the Algarve.

By age group, 14 elderly people over 80 years old died, nine people between 70 and 79 years old, one between 60 and 69 and another between 50 and 59 years old.

Most of the new infections were diagnosed in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, with 3,452 infections, followed by the Centre, with 1,663 more, the North (1,569), the Azores (622), the Algarve (581), the Madeira (479) and Alentejo (467).

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has recorded 1,162,305 cases and 8,742 deaths.

In the North region, there were 1,232,942 infections and 6,466 deaths and the Central region now has an accumulated total of 495,626 infections and 3,752 deaths.

The Algarve has a total of 135,269 infections and 691 deaths and Alentejo has 118,467 cases and 1,179 deaths from covid-19.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira has had 79,407 infections and 188 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic and the Azores archipelago 58,441 cases and 93 deaths.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information disclosed in the DGS bulletin.

According to DGS, there were 1,527,202 cases of infection in men and 1,752,339 in women, with 2,916 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically.

Since March 2020, 11,109 men and 10,002 women have died from Covid-19.
