Covid-19: Portugal Update, 13 April

Portugal has today 20 less people hospitalised with Covid-19, 408 confirmed cases of infection by SARS-CoV-2 and five more deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the latest epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate General of Health.

There are 459 people hospitalised today, 118 of whom are in intensive care units (one less than on Monday).

Health authorities also reported 746 more people recovered in the last 24 hours, reaching a total of 785,809 since March 2020 and active cases total 25,441, 343 less than on Monday.

Portugal has already recorded 16,923 deaths attributed to Covid-19 and 828,173 cases of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection.

The number of contacts under surveillance by health authorities has decreased by 217 compared to Sunday, now totalling 18,013.

According to the latest data from the DGS, Portugal currently has 2,156,805 people vaccinated against Covid-19, of which 603,753 are already immunised with the two doses.

Of the five deaths reported by health authorities, three occurred in the Lisbon region, one in the Centre region and another in the North region.

The North of the country has now counted 153 new infections by SARS-CoV-2, bringing the total since the beginning of the epidemic in the country to 332,635 cases of infection and 5,323 deaths.

The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has registered 137 new infections, totalling 313,812 cases and 7,174 deaths.

In the Centre region, 48 more cases were registered, accumulating 117,856 infections and 3,004 deaths, while in Alentejo 24 more cases were reported, adding up to 29,422 infections and 970 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The number of new cases also rose in the Algarve region, 13 more than on Sunday, accumulating 21,180 infections and 355 deaths.

In the Autonomous Region of Madeira nine new cases were recorded, accounting for 8,871 infections and 68 deaths due to Covid-19, and in the Azores 24 more new cases of infection, adding now 4,397 cases and 29 deaths, need the data of the report of the epidemiological situation in the country.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira release their data daily, which may not coincide with the information released in the DGS bulletin.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 452,436 women and 375,441 men in Portugal, DGS data show, according to which there are 296 cases of unknown gender, which are under investigation as this information is not provided automatically.

Of the total number of fatalities, 8,890 were men and 8,033 women.

The highest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

The pandemic caused at least 2,947,319 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 136.5 million cases of infection, according to the French agency AFP.
