Paul Mescal is nominated for Best Actor for his role in the acclaimed Aftersun, while An Cailín Ciúin is nominated for best International Feature Film, making it the first film as Gaeilge to be nominated for an Oscar.

Joining Mescal in the Best Actor category is Banshees star Colin Farrell. Farrell’s co-stars Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan are both nominated for Best Supporting Actor, while Kerry Condon, who plays Farrell’s onscreen sister, is nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Martin McDonagh is nominated for Best Director.

Northern Irish film An Irish Goodbye is nominated for Best Live Action Short. Behind the camera, Johnathan Redmond is nominated for Best Editing for Elvis, while Richard Baneham is nominated for Best Visual Effects for his work on Avatar: The Way of Water. Baneham previously won an Oscar for his work on the original Avatar film.

Everything Everywhere All at Once received the most nominations, with 11.
