The Government has ordered the creation of specialised teams in all volunteer fire brigades in Portugal in order to strengthen the means to support operations in the area of public health in response to Covid-19.

In a statement, the Secretary of State for Internal Affairs said that specialised teams are needed to support, help and transport patients, through the permanent distribution of a rescue ambulance and its crew. “This measure implies the payment to the Humanitarian Associations of Firefighters (AHB) of a daily value of €85 for each vehicle to be supported by the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority”.

Additionally, the Secretary of State for Internal Affairs pointed out that this payment at 412 AHBs corresponds to a monthly amount of more than €1 million. “The Ministry of Internal Affairs thus reinforces, through the creation of these specialised teams, the operational response of fire departments to the worsening epidemiological situation while strengthening the financial capacity of AHBs”.
