Batalha Town Hall, in Leiria district, will distribute 30 tonnes of firewood to 60 needy families in the county and five gas cylinders, said the mayor of Batalha to Lusa News Agency

“The distribution of firewood started last year. This year we have more orders so we doubled the quantity”, said Paulo Batista Santos, explaining that this year the municipality will also deliver gas cylinders, corresponding, roughly, to one gas cylinder per household”.

According to a press release from the municipality, the measure aims to “help people in need to face the cold weather that is expected for the coming weeks”.

The municipality adds that “workshops to alert the population to the risks of cold spells, will be carried out in collaboration with the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority and health units, namely with the elderly, children and people in need”.
