Due to the pandemic of Covid-19, the well-known magazine decided this year to elect the best team in the history of the sport, through a vote that was held by 140 journalists from around the world.

“I am very honoured to be part of the best 11 of ‘France Football’. What an amazing dream team... All of them [players] deserve my respect, admiration and I am obviously proud to be among such extraordinary players. Thank you,” the Juventus striker wrote on his personal Instagram account.

In a list in which, in addition to the 35-year-old Juventus striker, there were Portuguese names such as Luís Figo and Eusébio, the player holding five golden balls was the only Portuguese elected to the best team, presented in a 3x4x3 system, which included the late Diego Armando Maradona.

Russian, Lev Yachine, was the one who collected the most votes for the goal keeper, behind three defenders, the Brazilian Cafu, the German Franz Beckenbauer and the Italian Paolo Maldini, while in the most defensive midfield the choices fell on the German Lothar Matthaus and the Spanish Xavi.

Argentina’s Diego Maradona and Brazilian Pelé have been distinguished as the best attacking midfielders, while the forwards are also Brazilian Ronaldo, Argentine Lionel Messi and Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, the only two ‘legendary’ players still active in the game.
