”Foamy” is often the word used to describe a soft top board. The small white surfboards you usually see a surfer carry are made out of fibreglass and epoxy resin, while soft top boards are made out of a foam that is hard to break, less slippery, softer to fall on and has more floatation, which is why these boards are what most people learn to surf on.
