Nevertheless, you will need to take steps to obtain a new residence permit that confirms your status as beneficiary of the Withdrawal Agreement.
If you are a holder of an EU Registration Certificate (issued by the Town Hall) or a Permanent Residence Certificate/card (issued by SEF), you should register to exchange your current documents at: https://brexit.sef.pt/en/. After registering on the portal and submitting the form, you may download your registration confirmation. If you travel abroad, you should present your passport and proof of residence in Portugal to the immigration officer at the border.
After January 2021, those who have registered on the portal will receive an email asking them to book an appointment to provide biometric data for their new residence permit. This will take place at a Town Hall near your place of residence that will be providing this service.
If you are protected under the Withdrawal Agreement but were not able to obtain a Registration Certificate before the end of the transition period, you should contact SEF and follow their guidance.
If you plan to move to Portugal after 1 January 2021, you should apply for a visa or residence permit. For more information, please contact the Portuguese Consulates in your country of residency.

For those that registered on the SEF portal and got a print out of the document that is supposed to cover us,and those are still waiting to hear for an appointment from SEF (don't hold your breath!) for a new biometric card.Currently there seems to be an issue of who will issue the cards,SEF or the local Town Halls.Due to this nothing seems to be getting done and those left in limbo will have to keep on waiting. It would be good journalism if maybe one of the English language newspapers could perhaps look into this or keep people informed on the latest news regarding this as it affects the majority of it's readership.
