Worldwide Christians mark the beginning of Lent by marking of ashes on their foreheads, a tradition that dates back to the middle ages.

Ash Wednesday, on 17 Febraury, marks the onset of the Lent, the 40-day period of fasting and abstinence. It is also known as the ‘Day of Ashes’, so called because on that day at church the faithful have their foreheads marked with ashes in the shape of a cross.

All Saints Anglican Church in Lagoa and Almancil will be offering both a zoom service in the morning and a traditional service at the Convent in Lagoa in the afternoon. Strict coronovirus rules are followed in Lagoa so please be sure to wear a face mask and observe the social distancing seating rules.

The zoom service will be held at 10:30. Please contact secretary@allsaintsalgarve.org or 932 841 943 for details on how to join.

The traditional service, with Holy Communion will be held at Lagoa at 16:00. Everyone is welcome at either service.
