The DGS epidemiological bulletin also reveals that 2,165 patients are hospitalised (15 fewer than on Saturday), of which 484 are in intensive care, minus eight.

Intensive care admissions today have the lowest value since December 19, when 485 people were in these units, while patients admitted to hospitals are today the lowest number since the beginning of November last year.

The data released today also indicate that 1,664 people were recovered, bringing the total number of recovered to 718,977 since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal, in March 2020.

For 28 consecutive days, the number of recovered patients exceeds that of new infections.

Active cases in Portugal continue to record a decrease, with 69,268 active cases today, minus 987.

Since March 2020, Portugal has recorded 16,317 deaths associated with covid-19 and 804,562 cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Health authorities have 45,414 contacts under surveillance, 3,076 fewer than in the previous day, with the downward trend since January 30.

According to the latest data from the Directorate-General for Health, Portugal currently has 861,922 people vaccinated: 596,812 with the first dose and 265,110 with the second dose.

Of the 41 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, 26 occurred in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, five in the Centre region, five in the North region, three in the Alentejo and two in the Algarve.

In the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, a further 257 new infections were reported, with 304,534 cases and 6,831 deaths so far.

The North region today has 229 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 and since the beginning of the pandemic it has already counted 326,304 cases of infection and 5,206 deaths.

In the Centre region, 97 more cases were recorded, with a total of 114,957 infections and 2,905 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 50 more cases were reported, totalling 28,459 infections and 947 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal.

The Algarve region has today reported 32 new cases, totalling 20,098 infections and 339 deaths.

Madeira registered 35 new cases. This autonomous region accounts for 6,458 infections and 61 deaths due to covid-19.

The Autonomous Region of the Azores registered 18 new ones in the last 24 hours and a total of 3,752 cases of infection and 28 deaths were reported.

Confirmed cases are distributed across all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years of age.

Of the total fatalities, 8,536 were men, 7,781 women.

The largest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total deaths, 10,814 were people over 80 years old, 3,435 aged between 70 and 79 years old and 1,439 were between 60 and 69 years old.
