The Animal Collection Centre of Figueira da Foz collected 675 animals last year, 160 of which were collected on public roads

In a town hall meeting, councilman Miguel Pereira highlighted the work, as well as the "effort and dedication" in "pandemic circumstances", performed by the Municipal Veterinary Service (SVM) and the management of the Animal Collection Centre of Figueira da Foz (CRAFF).

Sixty-eight animals were returned to their owners (66 canids and two felids), 53 animals were adopted, and 279 (140 canids and 137 felids) were given to temporary foster families, reads a press release.

251 sterilisations were carried out, however, "despite the effort, it was not possible to reach the number we assumed", said Miguel Pereira.

The municipality of Figueira da Foz, in Coimbra's district, reports the collection of "192 injured animals from 28 canids for the purpose of sanitary sequestration, and the reception of 129 animals (72 canids and 57 felids), delivered by the owner".

The Municipal Veterinary Service collaborated in the management of the collection and treatment of marine animals stranded on the coast of the geographical area of the municipality.

This Veterinary Service is also responsible for the task of "inspection and control" of establishments that sell products of animal origin in general and the PACE (Plan for Approval and Control of Establishments), the capture and collection of abandoned animals, the management of animal adoptions, among other functions.

The project for the new municipal animal collection and treatment centre, in the parish of Ferreira-a-Nova, is "in the specialties phase" and has an investment of 500 thousand Euros.
