We follow the authors journey in this book from a small village in Southern India all the way to her famous restaurants in Atlanta.

Some of the recipes included are Kerala Fried Chicken and Waffles, Vivid Tomato and Cheese Pie, Three Spice Carrot Cake, Spice-to-table Oatmeal, Blueberry Lime Muffins and many more.

The author is also an award winning chef, runs restaurants and hosts the YouTube channel ‘Curry and Cornbread’. She has written this book with Matha Hall Foose. Martha is an author and has won the James Beard Award for American cooking.
The recipes are varied, unique and fuse the two regions together. The pictures are great and the quality of the book is good. The charm of the cookbook is that the recipes take you on a spice journey and you can almost smell all the wonderful aromas when you read the recipes. Gomez also talks about her childhood which adds a special touch.

There is also a guide to spices in the book which detail their origins and uses. I thought this was a great addition.

This is her tribute to her past in India and her present in Atlanta and her combining the tastes of both areas into recipes she loves. If you are looking for a different kind of cookbook with unusual recipes and love spicy food then this book is recommended for you.
