The DGS epidemiological bulletin reveals that 536 patients are hospitalised (19 more than on Sunday). The number of new hospitalisations has been oscillating in the last few days, after a period of some stability in the decreasing direction.

In intensive care, Portugal today has 112 patients, minus five compared to Sunday, the lowest figure since October 7, the day that 104 people were hospitalised in these units.

The data also reveals that 321 people were reported to have recovered, bringing the total number to 780,643 since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal, in March 2020.

Active cases in Portugal continue to record a decrease, with 25,966 recorded today (minus 168).

Since March 2020, Portugal has recorded 16,885 deaths associated with covid-19 and 823,494 cases of infection with the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the covid-19 disease.

Health authorities have 15,928 contacts under surveillance, minus 32 compared to the previous day.

According to the most recent DGS data, Portugal currently has 1,834,825 people vaccinated against covid-19, of which 1,282,956 with the first dose and 551,869 with the second dose.

The transmissibility index (Rt) of the new coronavirus in Portugal today rose to 1 on the continent, while the incidence has dropped to 60.9 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in the last 14 days, according to official data.

The previous Rt on the continent, released on Friday, was 0.97 and the incidence was 62.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

With regard to the values ​​referring to the whole country, the joint bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) and the National Institute of Health Doutor Ricardo Jorge (INSA) reveals that the Rt rose from 0.97, on Friday, to 0.98.

Regarding the incidence of new cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in the last 14 days throughout the national territory, the official data point to a decrease, going from 65.6 on Friday, to the 62.8 cases of infection by SARSCoV2 per 100 000 inhabitants.

Rt and incidence data are updated on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Of the six reported deaths, two were recorded in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, two in the North and two in the Central region.

In the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 65 new infections were reported, accounting for 312,220 cases and 7,153 deaths so far.

The North region has 44 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 and since the beginning of the pandemic it has already counted 331,149 cases of infection and 5,309 deaths.

In the Centre region, five more cases were recorded, with a accumulation of 117,320 infections and 3,002 deaths.

In the Alentejo, two more cases were reported, totalling 29,172 infections and 970 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, today's bulletin reveals that 32 new cases were registered, accumulating 20,862 infections and 354 deaths.

In the Autonomous Region of Madeira, nine new cases were registered, accounting for 8,683 infections and 68 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.

Today, the Azores have two new cases and account for 4,088 cases and 29 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, according to DGS.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira disclose their data on a daily basis, which may not coincide with the information disclosed in the DGS bulletin.

Of the total number of fatalities, 8,866 were men and 8,019 women.

The largest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total deaths, 11,126 were people over 80 years old, 3,584 aged between 70 and 79 years old, and 1,506 were between 60 and 69 years old.
