Madeira is to move ahead with the massive vaccination of people linked to tourism according to the President of the Regional Government.

“We are going to make a monumental effort throughout this month, to intensively vaccinate personnel linked to the hotel industry, tourist entertainment, restaurants, taxis and transport”, said Miguel Albuquerque.

The chief executive of the Madeiran PSD / CDS coalition said that this process, which will start with “frontline people” in the sector, should “cover more than 40,000 people”.

One of the first professions to be vaccinated will be the Carreiros do Monte workers, the men who slide with the traditional basket cars down the hill, one of the main tourist attractions of Madeira, who restarted their activity this week.
