The vaccination programme across Portugal continues to move forward, however the Algarve and Lisbon are lagging behind nationally.

More than 4.3 million people have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in Portugal, equivalent to 42 percent of the country’s resident population.

According to the latest vaccination report from the General Directorate of Health (DGS), updated weekly on Tuesdays, as of Sunday 4,337,479 people (42 percent) had completed the vaccination schedule and 6,213,798 (60 percent) had at least started vaccination.

Data refer to vaccinated people aged 16 and over.

Portugal started the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 on December 27, 2020.

In total the country has received 11,510,810 doses and distributed 10,694,447.

The regions of Alentejo and the Centre are the ones with the most advanced vaccination process, respectively with 49 percent and 46 percent of the population with a complete vaccination.

Conversely, the Algarve and Lisbon and Vale do Tejo continue to be the regions most behind in the programme, with only 40 percent of the population in both having completed the vaccination cycle.

By age group, 95 percent (644,821) of people aged 80 and over have completed vaccination, followed by 88 percent (1,427,955) between 65 and 79 years and 71 percent (1,538,586) between 50 and 64 years old.

In the 25 to 49 age group, 20 percent of people (681,588) have completed the vaccination course and 57 percent (1,899,241) took at least one dose.

Among young people aged 18 to 24 years, 5 percent (42,491) have completed vaccination and 8 percent (62,589) have started vaccination.

Also according to the report, 3,090 young people aged 16 to 17 have received at least one dose and 2,037 the second dose. These young people, namely with Trisomy 21, were indicated for vaccination (with the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine) under a DGS policy on priority groups that was updated in March 2021.
