The possibility of access for healthy adolescents to get their vaccination does not exist at this stage, as age groups over 18 are still being vaccinated and priority is being given to adolescents and young people with underlying health conditions”, says the DGS. On Sunday, in a clarification sent to Lusa, the DGS considered, after hearing the technical commission on vaccination against Covid-19, that "any teenager aged 12-15 should be given the possibility of access to vaccination by medical indication", without however specifying when this vaccination process would take place.

According to the standard that defines priority diseases for vaccinating adolescents aged 12-15 years, and which was updated on Wednesday night, these young people with underlying health conditions must appear on the date they are called for vaccination, at the Vaccination Centers with their legal guardian. The DGS determines that children between the ages of 12 and 15 who have active cancer, diabetes, obesity, chronic renal failure are among those who should be vaccinated primarily against Covid-19. The standard also establishes transplantation and immunosuppression as priority diseases for vaccination.

According to the standard, neurological diseases are also included, which include cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophies, developmental disorders such as Trisomy 21 and severe and profound intellectual development disorders. Chronic lung disease, chronic respiratory disease such as severe asthma, and cystic fibrosis are also among the priorities.

The DGS states that, "as was done for the priority diseases for Phase 1 and Phase 2 (people aged 16 or over), adolescents with these diseases are eligible for vaccination after their identification, through the Electronic Prescription Physician, by the assistant physicians”. “It is also possible, to vaccinate people aged 16 or over, in exceptional and clinically substantiated situations, whereby the doctor must refer a person for priority vaccination”, states the standard.
