The Regional Section of the Centre of the Medical Association (SRCOM) said that the reaction of the people of Portugal showed “profound recognition” for the work and dedication of the doctors and professionals involved in the process.

“The work that family doctors have developed has been essential for the success of the vaccination process. In the visits we made to the vaccination centres in the Centre region, we observed the commitment, dedication and the delivery of family doctors”.

President of the association, Carlos Cortes underlines that “it is an immeasurable pride for Portugal, and for the Central region, which has already reached the European target of 70 percent of the population vaccinated”.

SRCOM points out that, according to data advanced by the Directorate-General for Health, the Central region (80 percent at the time of going to press) is the most advanced in this process, with 79 vaccination centres, right after Alentejo, which leads the ‘ranking’.

The president of SRCOM expressed his “deep sense of gratitude to the entire population, namely to the younger people and teenagers who overcame all fears and went to vaccination centres in the Centre region and in the rest of the country in an expressive way”.

“We are at the top level of world vaccination, whether by the magnificent organisation led by Vice Admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo and his‘ task force’, or by the adhesion of the population”, he added.

Since the first hour of this process, under the motto “Protecting the Future”, SRCOM has been carrying out an awareness campaign on vaccination against Covid-19 to transmit peace of mind and security.

“Vaccination is absolutely fundamental”, said Carlos Cortes, stressing that “this success is a collective act of solidarity and concern for others”.
