During a routine patrol officers from the NPA come across the animal in danger of drowning, inside an irrigation canal, coming from Albufeira do Caia. After several attempts, they managed to remove the animal from the irrigation channel, releasing it to its natural habitat.
GNR provides the SOS Ambiente e Território Line, which is managed by the Nature and Environment Protection Service (SEPNA) and is available 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, through the number 808 200 520 or at www.gnr.pt, environmental complaints can be filed here and advice on matters related to nature, environment, forests, pets, health laws and territorial planning may also be obtained.
So glad to see the GNR caring for wild animals, it shows an evolution in attitudes and gives one confidence for the future.

With the sides of the irrigation canal much higher than the water level the situation is likely to reoccur. Why not installing ramps that would allow easy access/exit to the many creatures that live along the canal?
