According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), overnight stays by tourists from foreign markets also grew 94.5 percent in August, totalling 3.3 million, thanks to the easing of restrictions in travel due to Covid-19.

Compared with August 2019, there is a 22.6 percent growth in overnight stays from residents and a decrease of 46.9 percent in overnight stays from non-residents.

In total, the tourist accommodation sector in Portugal registered 2.5 million guests and 7.5 million overnight stays in August 2021, corresponding to increases of 35.6 percent and 47.6 percent, respectively (+60.4 percent and +73.0 percent in July, in the same order).
