Since becoming CEO, Dr. Márcia Martins has been investing in the clinic's modernisation, hiring new professionals, improving the space and focusing on the most technological equipment in Europe.

“We want our patients to feel happy when they go to the dentist. With non-invasive approaches, the patient is much more comfortable and leaves the clinic with a smile on their face – something that motivates us every day,” she said.

With the implementation of the intraoral dental 3D scanner, this appliance, a handheld scanner is small enough to be placed directly inside the patient´s mouth making treatments significantly faster and eliminating consultations, such as impressions and being able to work with leading laboratories around the world such as in the United States and Switzerland.

“This scanner allows us to have all the tools in a single instrument to plan a patient´s final smile in 3D,” she explained.

“We have the best technology here. Patients do not need to travel abroad to carry out certain treatments, we have the best techniques in the Algarve, we have a high level of excellence”, said Dr. Márcia Martins.

In addition, the Albufeira Health Institute team speaks five languages fluently: English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

There is something that will never change - the warm environment and the personal experience with patients.

Dental Specialties & multidisciplinary team

Albufeira Health Institute prides itself on having the best professionals in each dental medical specialty - “Throughout our career it is normal for doctors to discover areas we love and that we do better”. In the CEO's case, it's periodontal surgery that she loves.

“Furthermore, it is important to have increasingly specialised doctors to offer the patient a better treatment plan through a multidisciplinary approach. That's why we decided to invest in our team, increasing the available specialties”, she explained.

At the moment the clinic reaches almost all areas including: Periodontics, Implantology and Oral Surgery, Esthetic Dentistry and Oral Rehabilitation, Endodontics, Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry.

Implantology and Oral Surgery

The evolution of dentistry has allowed dental Implants to be the go-to solution for those with missing teeth. “Working with the leading brand of implants in the industry, we have been placing and rehabilitating smiles for over 20 years.”

Having such experience in implantology, Albufeira Health Institute is also known as the reference point for the maintenance of already existing implants for many coming to the Algarve.

Additionally, there are also new areas in which the clinic has been investing with the integration of new professionals, such as physiotherapy - particularly important for patients with temporomandibular joint disorders.

Maintaining a healthy smile is a lifelong commitment and plays an essential role to one´s overall health. Implementing proper hygiene habits is one step in this commitment.

“We have also made a big investment in our Department of Prevention and Oral Health which includes a completely different protocol, less invasive and more modern, based on a protocol that was developed in Switzerland. People love it,” Dr. Márcia told The Portugal News.

Pediatric dentistry

A happy dental experience is not just available for adults. Children, who usually hate going to the dentist, will even start to like it.

At the moment, with Dr. Sara Lopes, a Pediatric Dentist from Lisbon, Albufeira Health Institute has become one of the few clinics in the Algarve offering Pediatric dentistry aimed at children.

“It's great to have her know-how in our clinic because children are not miniature adults - they have their own needs, and different treatment protocol.” she said.

According to the doctor: “There are children with anxiety and also non-compliant children. For those, we have specific approaches, such as conscious sedation, intra-oral camera and Zeiss 3D glasses in order to fulfil treatment. We are happy to have this specialisation in the clinic and to give this confidence to children and their families”.
