The number of new infections registered in the last 24 hours is the highest since that date, when 7,914 cases were registered.

The daily epidemiological bulletin of the DGS also reveals an increase in the number of hospitalised people, totalling 909 admissions today, five more than on Tuesday, of which 155 are in intensive care units, plus two in the last 24 hours.

Of the 11 deaths, three occurred in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, another three in the Centre, two in the North, two in the Algarve and one in the autonomous region of Madeira.

Lisbon and Vale do Tejo is also the region with the most new cases diagnosed in the last 24 hours (4,221), followed by the North (2,541), the Centre (1,272), the Algarve (353), Madeira (282), the Alentejo (138) and the Azores (85).

According to data from the health authority, there were two deaths in the age group between 60 and 69, three between 70 and 79 and six among the elderly over 80 years old.

The greatest number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic continues to be concentrated among the elderly over 80 years old (12,229), followed by the age groups between 70 and 79 years old (4,065) and between 60 and 69 years (1,727).

Active covid-19 cases increased in the past 24 hours to 78,059, 5,172 more than on Tuesday, and 3,754 people recovered from the disease, bringing the national total recoveries to 1,145,663.

Compared to the previous day, health authorities have over 3,687 contacts under surveillance, totalling 107,232 people.

The largest number of new cases diagnosed is in the age group between 20 and 29 years old (1,899), followed by 40 to 49 years old (1,600), from 30 to 39 years old (1,543), from 50 to 59 years old (1,085) from 10 to 19 years old (1,054), from 0 to 9 years old (762), from 60 to 69 years old (623), from 70 to 79 years old (243) and of the elderly over 80 years old (128).

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, the region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo has registered 474,735 cases and 7,933 deaths.

In the North region there were 460,232 infections and 5,742 deaths and the Centre region now has a cumulative total of 179,067 infections and 3,330 deaths.

The Algarve has a total of 54,999 infections and 569 deaths and the Alentejo has 44,876 cases and 1,083 deaths due to covid-19.

Since the start of the pandemic, the Autonomous Region of Madeira has 17,759 infections and 116 deaths, and the Azores archipelago has 10,877 cases and 50 deaths.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

In Portugal, since March 2020, 18,823 people have died, 9,881 among men and 8,942 among women.
