The five films were selected by a jury, from a call launched this year by the academy and Netflix, aimed at giving more visibility to Portuguese women - or with permanent residence in Portugal - who have been involved in the production, directing or writing of scripts.

The chosen films are "A Metamorfose dos Pássaros", by Catarina Vasconcelos, with Joana Gusmão in the production, "Soa", by Raquel Castro, with a script by Isabel Machado, produced by Joana Ferreira and Sara Simões, "Mar", by Margarida Gil , with a script by Rita Benis, and "Simon Chama", by Marta Sousa Ribeiro, and produced by Joana Peralta.

They are joined by "Desterro", by the Portuguese-Brazilian director Maria Clara Escobar.

The partnership provides for the licensing of feature films to the Netflix platform for a period of one year, with exhibition scheduled for 2022, "at a date to be announced".

"This is just a first step on the way to greater representation and equal opportunities for women in the film and audiovisual sector", underlined the academy.

The films were chosen by Carla Chambel (vice-president of the Portuguese Academy of Cinema), Fátima Ribeiro (script), Isadora Laban (Netflix Portugal and Spain) and Tota Alves (script).
