According to the daily report on the epidemiological situation released by the DGS, there are now 1,564 patients hospitalised in the ward, 24 less than on Monday, and 153 in Intensive Care Units, eight less in the last 24 hours.

Active cases have declined in the last 24 hours to 269,451, 10,201 fewer than on Monday, and 43,513 people have recovered from the disease, bringing the national total recovered to 1,404,786.

Of the 28 deaths, one of which between the ages of 20 and 29, 10 occurred in the North region, nine in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, three in the Center region, four in the Algarve, one in Alentejo and one in Madeira.

Compared to the situation recorded in Portugal on the same day a year ago, in which 5,604 new infections were recorded, the country now has 27,736 new cases.

Contrary to what has happened in recent weeks, the North was the region with the most new cases diagnosed in the last 24 hours, 13,253, followed by Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (12,390), the Center (3,907), Madeira (2,136) , the Alentejo (725), the Algarve (686) and the Azores (243).

Compared to the previous day, health authorities have 3,243 fewer contacts under surveillance, totalling 224,730 people.

According to DGS data, 20 of the 28 fatalities were over 80 years old, three were between 70 and 79 years old, one between 60 and 69 years old, two between 50 and 59 years old, one between 40 and 49 years and another between 20 and 29 years.

The largest number of new diagnosed cases is in the age group between 40 and 49 years old (6,382), followed by 20 to 29 years old (5,580), 30 to 39 years old (5,532), 50 and 59 years old (5,090 ), between 10 and 19 years old (3,882), between 60 and 69 years old (2,644), up to 9 years old (2,282), between 70 and 79 years old (1,284) and elderly people over 80 years old (664) .

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has recorded 672,557 cases and 8,065 deaths.

In the North region, there were 615,995 infections and 5,823 deaths and the Central region now has an accumulated total of 229,712 infections and 3,389 deaths.

The Algarve has a total of 67,242 infections and 601 deaths and Alentejo has 57,271 cases and 1,097 deaths from covid-19.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira has had 35,290 infections and 132 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic and the Azores archipelago 15,331 cases and 54 deaths.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information disclosed in the DGS bulletin.

In Portugal, since March 2020, 19,161 people have died, 10,079 were men and 9,082 were women.
