The starting point for this musical is based off “Some of my best friends are singers” which is the title of a record by bassist Ray Brown’s trio. This musical’s narrative is told by three singers and friends that make up the group “Elas e o Jazz” who are the talented Mariana Norton, Marta Hugon and Joana Machado.

Joana Machado, Marta Hugon and Mariana Norton crossed paths at the Hot Clube de Portugal school, first as students and then as teachers. They developed distinct and solid projects, collaborating at times, and each composing or writing their own repertoire. One day, between drinks and music, they revisited their favorite mainstream songs and so the desire to return home arose. The home of jazz musicians is made up of composers such as Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Richard Rogers, Jerome Kern or Harold Arlen.

The trio will be accompanied by João Pedro Coelho on piano, Rodrigo Correia on the double bass and André Sousa Machado on drums, which promises to “recreate the ever-contemporary universe of Broadway musicals and NY jazz clubs, in a show which is much more than a visit to the classics but a musical narrative told by three voices, who bring emotion to the stage.”

“This trio presents a musical narrative that breathes life into the timeless repertoire of Broadway musicals and the New York Jazz scene.” If you love the universe of Broadway, musicals and jazz clubs then you will not want to miss out with tickets at only €10 and with a further 20 percent off with your cultural passport, your Lagoa Social card or Rota do Petisco 2021 passport.
