In view of the offensive that is currently being carried out by Russia in Ukraine, the IEFP has prepared a platform, on which Portuguese companies can indicate the job opportunities they have available for refugees who will eventually arrive in Portugal.
On the day of its launch, according to the Minister of Labour, Ana Mendes Godinho, this platform had 2,000 vacancies and, just three days later, it has already surpassed 11,000 job opportunities.
As the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security had already explained, “there is a huge diversity of desired professions, and the main sectors with job offers placed are information technology, transport (drivers), catering and hospitality, social and civil construction“, sectors that, it should be noted, are currently being punished by the shortage of human resources.
The vacancies registered on the IEFP platform are “dispersed throughout the country” and this institute has also committed itself to “mapping the skills of Ukrainian workers hosted”. If, afterwards, there is an adjustment between the vacancies and the profile of the citizens in question, the IEFP will contact the companies to present the candidates.
In addition, this institute has already announced that it will “provide courses in Portuguese as a Host Language for Ukrainian citizens arriving in Portugal”.
Green light
The Government has also given the “green light” to the creation of a mechanism that provides for the automatic entry of these citizens into Portugal, as well as a program under which Ukrainian refugees who arrive in the country automatically receive a number for tax, Social Security and user identification, which will facilitate their professional integration.
According to the High Commissioner of the United Nations (UN), Filippo Grandi, one million refugees have already fled Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion to neighboring countries.
