“The Government assumes the objective of […] increasing, by 2026, the weight of renewable energies in electricity production to 80%, anticipating the established goal by four years”, reads the program delivered by the Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Ana Catarina Mendes, to the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva.

Additionally, the Government also intends to increase the share of renewable energy in gross final energy consumption to 47% by 2030.

Currently, renewable energies account for 58% of electricity production.

“Portugal has broken world records in solar energy auctions, and it will be possible to anticipate in five years the fulfillment of the goals established in the National Energy and Climate Plan 2030 (renewables penetration targets foreseen for 2030)”, reads the document.

The Deputy Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Ana Catarina Mendes, today handed over the Program of the XXIII Constitutional Government to the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva.

The formal delivery was made in the parliament's visiting room shortly before 12:30, in the format that usually takes place in the delivery of State Budgets.

The program was approved at the first meeting of the Council of Ministers, on Thursday, and will be discussed in the plenary of parliament on April 7th and 8th.
