In an update from CIVISA published on the Civil Protection page, it is said that, from 10:00 pm on Tuesday to 10:00 am today, “an earthquake was felt”.

From 10:00 am to 10:00 pm on Tuesday, two earthquakes were felt, according to CIVISA.

One of them, of magnitude 2.2 on the Richter scale, was recorded at 12:38 in the parishes of Velas, São Amaro and Rosais, with intensity III, according to the Modified Mercali Scale.

Another, of magnitude 2.1, was felt at 21:23 with intensity III in the parishes of Velas and Santo Amaro.

The most recent that happened at dawn, at 02:08, had a magnitude of 1.7 on the Richter scale and was felt with intensity II on the Modified Mercali Scale.

By 10:00 am on Tuesday, and since the beginning of the seismovolcanic crisis on the island of São Jorge, on March 19, CIVISA had registered a total of 27,223 earthquakes on the island, of which 226 were felt by the population.

The earthquake of the greatest magnitude (3.8 on the Richter scale) occurred on March 29 at 21:56.

The island maintains volcanic alert level V4 (eruption threat) out of a total of seven, where V0 stands for “resting state” and V6 “eruption in progress”.
