The “card by points” system, consists of subtracting points when serious and very serious infractions and road crimes are committed, leading to the cancellation of the driving license when all 12 of the points are lost.

ANSR said that, since it came into force, 2,108 driving licenses were revoked, 614 of which in the last year, an increase of 41% compared to the number registered in the previous five years.

They also stated that 1,063 drivers have zero points on their driving license, and the processes are at the stage of a hearing with the intention to revoke the license (560), notification of the final decision (490) and instruction (13).

In six years, 3,171 drivers lost all points, and 2,108 were left without a driving license.

According to the ANSR, the infractions that most contributed to the loss of points are the use of a mobile phone, speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to comply with the obligation to stop at a red light.
