In the analysis of tourism indicators, the main sector of regional economic activity, last month, the Regional Directorate of Statistics (DREM) points out that, “with the first data for tourist accommodation in the region, it is estimated that 169.8 thousand guests in establishments, corresponding to 830.7 thousand overnight stays, which translates into very expressive year-on-year variations, of +535.4% and +574.2%, respectively”.

DREM points out that these sharp increases are the result of the impact of the covid-19 pandemic on Madeira's tourist activity in 2021, recalling that last year “the month of April registered only 26,700 guests and about 123,200 overnight stays”.

It is underlined that the values ​​of overnight stays and guests entered, in April this year, “are the highest ever for this month”.
