Following in the footsteps of Roman Abramovich and Andrei Rappoport, who are already naturalised, Yushvaev joins Lev Leviev and God Nisanov on the list of Russian oligarchs who are waiting for the Ministry of Justice to receive their Portuguese passport, having already been certified by the Israeli Community of Porto (CIP) as a descendant of Sephardic Jews.

Yushvaev was born in 1957 in Makhachkala and currently lives in Moscow, with a fortune valued at 1.7 billion euros, according to Forbes. However, despite having become rich thanks to businesses that include real estate, oil and high technology, the oligarch was convicted of theft and spent nine years in a prison camp in 1980.

As early as 2013, he was mentioned in a report by the Information Directorate of the Spanish Civil Guard's Special Central Unit 2 for being linked to criminal organisations in Eastern Europe.

Yushvaev also founded the Wimn-Bill-Dann dairy group, one of the largest in Europe, in 1992, and in 2010 he sold his stake to PepsiCo for €1.1 billion. He then reinvested part of this in European and American tech start-ups, one of them being Lyft, the ride-hailing platform similar to Uber.

This cases arises in the wake of the controversy raised by the naturalisation of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, through the regime for descendants of Sephardic Jews, in a process that was certified by the Comunidade Israelita do Porto (CIP), responsible for certifying the vast majority of naturalisation applications submitted for the conservatory services and the Government.
