In a statement, CHUA states that, in the first half of 2022, 175,820 emergency episodes were recorded, 52,695 more than in 2021, representing, on average, 971 daily.

“The most expressive increase was seen in Paediatric emergencies, with an increase of 81.6% compared to the same period in 2021”, underlines the hospital, adding that the four Basic Emergency Services (SUB) in the region “also registered a very substantial increase, in the order of 63%”.

According to CHUA, right after emergencies, the surgical area was “the one that registered the biggest increase with a total of 8,816 surgeries, which represents an increase of 21.3% compared to the first half of 2021”.
