According to a report by Jornal de Notícias, the Porto Chamber will propose to the Municipal Assembly to put the brakes on new local accommodation registrations in the historic centre and also in Bonfim, for a period of six months.

The municipality of Porto will be studying the legal framework of the measure so that it can be taken to the Municipal Assembly. The objective is for the measure to be applied as soon as it is approved, for a period of six months, with the possibility of an extension.

This proposal refers to the need for “containment areas for housing growth”, with the intention of “in the near future, to approve a municipal regulation for the sustainable growth of local housing”. Although the size of the sector is not the same as in other European cities, the municipality stresses the need for balanced growth, namely based on a “ratio of attribution of new licenses for local accommodation in relation to residential accommodation”.
