According to Dinheiro Vivo, in a statement, Ascendi explains that the safety barrier replacement program has been implemented since 2019. The procedure will last until 2024 and, of the €22 million of investment, about €16 million "will be executed by the end of 2022", which corresponds to the completion of the replacement of 220 kilometres of safety barriers.

The program in question also includes the introduction of a new barrier system developed specifically for bridges and viaducts. This new system will be implemented by Roadsteel Engineering, and has already been implemented in the Beiras Litoral e Alta Concession (A25) over 16.2 kilometres.

"With the installation of this new system in all its infrastructures, Ascendi plans to invest, in stages until 2025, around nine million euros to replace 63 kilometres of safety barriers on bridges and viaducts", it reads.
