The judicial authorities ordered the preventive detention of a man suspected of several violent crimes who was extradited from the United Kingdom at the request of the Portuguese authorities following the fulfilment of a European arrest warrant.

The Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement that, “in the context of the investigation of crimes of robbery, kidnapping, theft and drug trafficking”, the now detained, a 32-year-old man, “was part of a group of three foreign citizens who worked in Portugal and Spain”.

The remaining two men had already been arrested in Spain, in May 2019, and extradited to Portugal, also within the scope of the fulfilment of a European arrest warrant.

The direction of the investigations is being carried out by the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) in Portimão, district of Faro, and the man was “presented to the competent judicial authorities”, who decided that he should be in preventive detention.
