André Ventura said that he will ask the President of the Republic for an audience, in which he will demand "specifically the calling of a referendum, in harmony with the legislation in force here in the Assembly of the Republic on the subject of euthanasia", which he considered "the only way to solve this problem in a peaceful and consensual way".
The leader of Chega was speaking to journalists in the Assembly of the Republic, after the Constitutional Court (TC) declared unconstitutional some of the norms of the decree that regulates medically assisted death, in response to the request for preventive inspection by the President of the Republic.
Following this decision, the President of the Republic vetoed this parliamentary decree as unconstitutional, as required by the Constitution, and the diploma will now be returned to the Assembly of the Republic.
André Ventura defended that "this process can only be resolved with a referendum", maintaining that "an issue of this importance, twice declared unconstitutional by the TC, can only be resolved with the direct participation of Portuguese citizens".
The president of Chega highlighted "the advantages" of a referendum, considering that "the issue will be validated by the Constitutional Court" and that there will be a "social debate about this".
"It also has the advantage that, regardless of majorities and in a legislature that no one believes will come to an end, we don't have to have the right to reverse this law immediately after having a majority in parliament", he added.
The Constitutional Court considered that “an intolerable lack of definition as to the exact scope of application” of the decree on medically assisted death had been created, noting that the parliament went “further”, changing “in essential aspects” the previous diploma.
This was the third decree approved by parliament to decriminalise medically assisted death in a period of about two years.
The first was also declared unconstitutional by the TC, in March 2021, following a request for preventive inspection by the President of the Republic, due to insufficient normative densification.
In November of the same year, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa used the political veto in relation to the second parliamentary decree on this matter, as it contained contradictory expressions.
What hurts and makes me boil with anger on this subject is the fact our leaders couldn´t care less for Health/public Health/dignity, yet they have all these fake pudencies towards Euthanasia. You´re not fooling anyone, you know?

Sorry guida, but clearly many many Portuguese are fooled, hence, they keep voting in these useless socialists. Until the Portuguese people wake up, their country will always remain deeply corrupt and utterly subservient to the EU.
Portugal could be the best country in western Europe, but it takes courage to cast off the previous' generations' shackles of poverty, ignorance and slave-like-existence. Unfortunately I don't see the Portuguese people being very courageous at all. In fact they're quite cowardly and obedient, always looking for a master to tell them what to do, what to think, how to live. It's really sad.

Ronald Reagan said the most dangerous words in the English language are 'I am from the Government. I am here to help you' Governments care not one iota about their population. Currently the is a world wide genocide plan implemented by the global elite in the planning for years. It is more than obvious now.

I once helped nurse my next door neighbours 8 Yr old son who was diagnosed with Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD).
Common first symptom is loss of balance. Over weeks/months the body loses control of functions and all senses, one by one. It's disgusting.
When he asked "what colour is he?" after being given a kitten to cuddle, we realised he'd gone blind.
Nasal canular feeding, stomach compression urination and faecal fluid whenever. Doped with a cocktail of pills - the pain contorted his body backwards, forcing his head to touch his feet - the pain was eating him!
Eventually in hospital, his father lay with him all night trying to ease his screaming and disfigured body from endless spasms. When the morning doctor arrived he demanded that his son was not to go through that again - by lunch time he was dead.
Euthanasia was practised then , and IS now.
Mr President - YOU NEED
ps. Still love you Tom, you were beautiful, I will never forget you.
