The Portuguese Surfing Federation has issued through social networks, a note in which it confirms the death of Pedro Martins de Lima, considered the 'father' of surfing in Portugal. The surfer was 92 years old.

"Today, we have to mourn the loss of one of the greats. A pioneer of great courage and vision, Pedro Martins de Lima is unanimously considered the first Portuguese to surf waves, our first Surfer, with a capital letter. He left us at the age of 92 to surf new waves", says the organisation in a note on Facebook.

"I remember his charming personality and his generosity. A big aloha, Pedro. See you forever!", ends the note from the Portuguese Surfing Federation.

Pedro Martins de Lima started surfing standing up in 1959 and is therefore considered the pioneer of the sport in Portugal.
