If any further proof was needed that Portugal is trending big-time, that requirement was all but filled last month when news broke that a reality-TV-famous real estate company was bringing some LA shine to Lisbon, where it is opening its first branch in the country.

Portugal has long been a hidden gem among Europe’s elite, historically favoured by royalty and dignitaries who flocked to the Cascais and Estoril coastline, dubbed the ‘Portuguese Riviera’, as well as to the country’s pretty spa towns for a soak in mineral-rich waters.

A-listers such as Madonna, John Malkovich, Monica Bellucci and Jamie Dornan have all reportedly snapped up sumptuous meterage in some of Portugal’s most stunning locations, but perhaps nowhere in the country hosts as many famous faces per-square-metre than the Algarve’s Quinta do Lago.

A host of legends have holidayed and bought property in Quinta do Lago since its inception in 1972.

Renowned as one of Europe’s premier summer retreats, Quinta do Lago is widely regarded as being on par with the likes of Saint-Tropez, Monaco, and Marbella in the classic glamour stakes, sought for the privacy and prestige it offers.

One of the resort’s most famous former residents was the Formula One legend, Ayrton Senna, who made the resort his home in the 1990s and even has a street named after him.

The luxury golf and leisure resort offers a range of Michelin-star restaurants, exclusive clubs, and shimmering beaches favoured by the elite. In fact, Portugal’s president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, is said to be particularly fond of Quinta do Lago’s Gigi beach bar on his summer Algarve breaks.

Other regular visitors and homeowners at Quinta do Lago include footballers Michael Owen and Alan Shearer, Dragons’ Den star entrepreneur Peter Jones, and Irish singer Ronan Keating, attracted by the first-class sports and leisure facilities as well as the unique seaside setting, in the midst of the protected Ria Formosa reserve.

Today, Quinta do Lago is experiencing a newfound popularity among a different generation of glitterati, including up-and-coming TV celebrities, entrepreneurs, social media stars, and the new wave of digital nomads, who appreciate the resort’s unique location and timeless class.

One of the newest arrivals in Quinta do Lago is the hospitality heavyweight, the Wyndham Grand Algarve. This hotel brings its own genre of luxury to the area, offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy its world-renowned five-star service in the heart of one of the Algarve’s most exclusive postcodes. The Wyndham Grand Algarve also allows investors to purchase properties through its residences, giving them the chance to own a piece of this luxurious destination.

In conclusion, Portugal has become a must-visit destination for global rich and famous, and Quinta do Lago is a particular favourite. With the Wyndham Grand Algarve adding to the area’s magnificent offerings, it is sure to remain a hotspot for years to come.
