Among the analyzed financial institutions, Caixa Geral de Depósitos was the one that most reduced its number of employees, ending 2022 with 5,837 employees, 280 less than on December 31 of the previous year.

In turn, the number of public bank branches fell by 27 to 515.

Santander Totta lost 141 workers in 2022, down to 4,664 employees. Its network dropped by eight to 339 branches.

Novo Banco, the last to announce the results for 2022, lost 103 employees last year and closed 19 branches, ending the year under review with 4,090 employees and 292 branches.

Below the 100 reductions were BCP and BPI.

BPI saw its number of workers fall by 74, while the number of branches fell by 24.

BCP, which has the highest number of workers, closed 2022 with 6,252 workers, losing 37 elements in its workforce in the last year.

However, the number of bank branches dropped by 26 to 408.

At the end of 2022, the banks under analysis had a total of 25,247 employees and 1,879 branches.
