Marilyn’s brother Greg (Calgary, Canada) and her sister Shelley (Kelowna, Canada) were here for the celebration of Marilyn’s life. Originally from Canada in 1985, Marilyn worked as an administrator for the non-profit (Planned Parenthood) in Vancouver BC. On a holiday she fell in love with the Algarve and never left.

Marilyn loved food and everything to do with it, including buying ingredients, preparing and cooking meals, and entertaining. Some of her happiest days were spent in her kitchen creating and developing her own unique recipes. Her two published articles, 'How to Flirt' and 'How to Meet a Portuguese Man' made her somewhat of a local Icon.

On a Saturday morning Marilyn could often be seen sitting 'at her cafe' outside the Portimão market. A host of friends would stop by to say hello. A more recent location for Marilyn was at the Sunday Alvor market where she would sell pieces of her delicious cakes.

With the help of her brother and sister, friends and Fiona, 'Sweet Marilyn' will continue producing and distributing her to-die-for desserts as she would have wanted.

Although she never achieved her dream of meeting the love of her life, Marilyn did achieve her dream of becoming the premiere baker of deluxe pies and cakes for the Algarve.

Go in peace Marilyn. We will all meet you soon at the dessert table in paradise.
