These indicators corresponded to 212.4 million euros of total income (+99%) and 153.9 million euros of income from accommodation (+102.3%), points out the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

According to INE, “compared to January 2020, when the effects of the pandemic were not yet observed, there were increases of 21.6% in total income and 24% in those related to accommodation”.

Furthermore, it should be noted that the average income per available room (RevPAR) stood at 29 euros, with the average income per occupied room (ADR) being 78.4 euros (+86.2% and +17.7 % compared to January 2022, respectively).

Compared to January 2020, RevPAR increased by 16.6% and ADR grew by 16.7%, advances INE.

In January of this year, among the municipalities with the highest representation in total overnight stays, Albufeira stands out, which continued to show a decrease in overnight stays, compared to 2020, both from residents (-17.5%) and non-residents (-9 .9%).

According to INE, considering most types of accommodation (tourist accommodation establishments, camping and holiday camps and youth hostels), in January 2023 there were 1.5 million guests and 3.8 million overnight stays, corresponding to increases of 70.4% and 70.0%, respectively.

When compared to January 2020, overnight stays increased by 6.4% (+6.5% in residents and +6.3% in non-residents), points out INE.

Still referring to total income, INE also mentions that it increased by 99%, reaching 212.4 million euros, while income from accommodation increased by 102.3%, reaching 153.9 million euros.

In January, the Lisbon Metropolitan Area concentrated 38.2% of total revenues and 40.3% of those relating to accommodation, followed by the Autonomous Region of Madeira (17% and 16.2%, respectively) and the north (16 .8% and 16.9%, in the same order).

The biggest increases, highlights INE, were registered in the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon (+150.3% in total income and +151.9% in income from accommodation) and north (+92.8% and +94.7%, respectively).

Compared to January 2020, the evolutions presented by the Autonomous Region of Madeira (+44.9% and +54.2%, in the same order) and the Autonomous Region of the Azores (+42.5% and +45.3) stand out %, respectively), stresses INE.
