“We received 163 applications [for support for flood damage] from families. We supported 64 families with 87,000 euros”, said Carlos Moedas, in Lisbon.

Carlos Moedas also updated the balance of support for companies affected by the December floods, informing that 79 companies had applied and 34 companies had received support for a value of 41,000 euros, less than support for families so far.

The Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Ana Abrunhosa, a month ago, said in parliament that the damage resulting from the bad weather that affected the country in December and January had increased to 342 million euros.

The previous balance of losses was 293 million euros and the volume of support to be granted amounted to around 185 million euros.

Several districts on the mainland were affected by heavy rains between the end of 2022 and the beginning of this year, with major flooding, damage to roads, businesses and homes, and dozens of people displaced.

In Algés, in the municipality of Oeiras (district of Lisbon), there was even one death due to flooding.
