Five new hiking routes in Monchique are just one of the nearly 20 parts of the project, launched in 2019 to rehabilitate the areas affected by the 2018 fire, and led by the Algarve Tourism Board (RTA).

The “Revitalize Monchique – Tourism as a Catalyst”, was financed by almost 480,000 euros by Turismo de Portugal, provides five more signposted walking routes, a new promotional website (visitmonchique.pt), a catalog of tourist experiences, festival walks, a guide to walking routes and an information leaflet with the network of small routes in the municipality.

These initiatives helped structure Monchique's offer of cultural, creative and nature tourism, strengthening the municipality's attractiveness. But the project also aimed at training professionals in the sector, through five sessions to disseminate good practices in tourism, involving 20 accommodation providers and 10 entertainment companies.
