“The security forces made a decisive contribution to Portugal continuing to be among the most peaceful countries in the world. Security is a factor of cohesion and a factor of social, economic and prestige development of the Portuguese State”, said José Luís Carneiro.

The official also left a word of “thanks and gratitude” to the GNR officers who serve the country, guaranteeing citizens “their rights and freedoms”.

“Today we have a very clear and objective investment in improving working conditions. The investment planned for 2026 is 607 million euros, which started in 2022”, he said.

The Minister of Internal Administration also stressed that this investment of 607 million euros until 2026 comes after the investment that was carried out between 2017 and 2022, of 340 million euros.

“It means that between 2017 and 2026 an investment close to one billion euros is expected in improving infrastructure, modernising equipment and, particularly, in the conditions of protection for the dignified exercise of the activity”, he maintained.
