“The report by the Regional Tourism Inspection shows that the number of accommodation establishments detected in an illegal situation has been decreasing, consistently, since 2018, and that in 2022 the lowest number was reached since 2015, even facing an increase in supply and demand", underlined Berta Cabral, Regional Secretary who oversees the sector.

The regional official considers that “it is a positive sign, because, in practice, this could represent a decrease in the parallel economy, that is, there will be more businesses contributing to the common good and there will be less and less those that seek to compete unfairly”.

Likewise, the number of complaints has shown a downward trend since 2018, with only 188 complaints being registered in 2022, compared to 317 in 2018, 277 in 2019 and 203 in 2021.
