Well-known personalities connected to the world of gastronomy and wine, official entities, connoisseurs, and the curious, many were the people who visited the Espaco Multiusos de Albufeira between 12th and 14th May. The organisation estimates the total number of visitors at around 9,000.

With a large part of the national public already aware of the event, the Wine Show is increasingly sought out by a foreign public, resident or visiting, attracted by the growing prestige of Portuguese wines inside and outside the country.

In its 12th edition, the Wine Show has once again included the Portuguese Wine Contest, an initiative that has reached its 8th edition, always integrated in this event. The tasting took place on May 6th and 7th, and the prizes were awarded during the official dinner which took place on the 12th, at Hotel Vila Petra.

The 2023 edition of the Wine Competition was one of the most attended ever! With about 120 wines in competition, a total of 33 medals were awarded: 1 Excellence, 2 Grand Gold, 27 Gold, and 3 Silver.

The Algarve producers had a very positive performance, with a total of 11 medals, including one Grand Gold, and ten Gold medals. Numbers that confirm the positive evolution of the sector throughout the region, as well as the growing quality of Algarve wines.

The Mayor of Albufeira, José Carlos Rolo, participated in the inauguration and in the official dinner, where he had the opportunity to congratulate the Brotherhood "for organizing this event that was already a mark in the calendar of the region and that, after the pause forced by the known circumstances, will certainly be a success again, because the wines and the gastronomy are factors that raise more and more interest to those who visit us".

Pedro Valadas Monteiro, Regional Director of Agriculture and Fisheries, was also present at the inauguration and official dinner, and highlighted "the centrality of Albufeira and its touristic weight as excellent factors to host an event of this nature that is also a showcase of what the region and the country know how to do with quality".

At the end of the event, Carlos Oliveira, Chancellor of the Bacchus Brotherhood of Albufeira, made a positive balance of the Show, highlighting that "this is a very dynamic event that gives us the opportunity to get to know, in the same space at a distance of a few meters, hundreds of quality wines, most of them of small production that cannot be found in the big supermarkets, which makes this format very appealing".
