According to information released by the BBC, the Public Ministry of the German state of Braunschweig states: "As part of the investigation of the case of Madeleine McCann, measures are currently being taken related to the ongoing criminal proceedings in Portugal".

The same source also clarified that such "measures are being implemented by the Portuguese police authorities", which have "the support of agents of the German Federal Criminal Police Department".

"Further information on the ongoing situation will not be released at this time," the statement concluded.
