A special Mass said by the Bishop of the Algarve followed by a spectacular concert will showcase the artistic renovations of the chapel of Nossa Senhora de Encarnação in Carvoeiro (Lagoa).

Entitled PASSOS DE LUZ ENTRE TERRA E CEU [Steps of Light between Heaven and Earth] this is a long-awaited event for the sculptor artist Lígia Rodrigues who created the uplifting modern interior. She is overjoyed to see her work receive the inauguration it so deserves. Delayed for over two years by COVID restrictions it will indeed be a joyful event.

The chapel itself is full of light and modern imagery. Seven fresco panels depicting Genesis on one side and refreshingly innovative depictions of the Apocalypse on the other lead the eye forward to the white sandstone altar and ambo where the carved stone reredos arches over the rising Christ figure. These are just a few of the striking pieces which create the special atmosphere of this sacred space.

Rodrigues has created this space with the future in mind. She is appealing to younger audiences and these will be well represented during the Mass and in the concert which follows directly afterwards in the Amphitheatre.

The concert will feature local artists: Carmen Danen and Catarina Martins, Laura and Miguel, Tiago Neves, Orquestra Juvenil de Guitarras de Lagoa and the Soul Band.

All are invited to join in this event - either the Mass or the concert or both.

This is a free event. The Mass starts at 8.30 pm and the Concert at 9.30 pm and will run till midnight. Limited parking is available from Algar Seco to the chapel.
