Citing data from the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security, the Observatory reveals that, in 2022, 562 Portuguese entered Brazil.
Of the 25,061 foreigners who entered Brazil last year, Portuguese accounted for 2.2%. In 2013, 4.7% of foreigners who emigrated to Brazil were Portuguese.
According to the Observatory, in 2020 and 2021, less than 500 Portuguese entered Brazil annually, surpassing this threshold in 2022, when 562 Portuguese emigrated to Brazil, i.e. 21.9% more.
“The recessive trend seen in recent years has resulted in a relative loss of importance for Portuguese immigration”, says the Emigration Observatory, which is an independent technical and research structure integrated into the Center for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES) at Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon.
So under 600 Portuguese individual moved to Brazil out of a population of 10.4 million people. How did this make the news? How many Portuguese are married to Brazilians? How many Portuguese would find Brazil a very interesting country to invest in or retire. Please, I would not even publish a story like this and call it News!
