Beginning in 1979, an incredibly successful vaccination programme has fought this disease and it is now only endemic in two countries in the world – Afghanistan and Pakistan. However, the polio virus has been detected in the UK and USA and a concerted effort is underway to ensure that vaccination programmes are maintained and are given to children to prevent it from getting a foothold again in other countries.

Rotary Club Estoi Palace International will be holding a fundraising bike ride on Sunday 19th November. Join us to help eradicate this disease by either taking part in the cycle ride or just making a donation. All funds raised will be matched 2 to 1 The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The ride will be organszed by Activity Bike Rides, http://www.activityalgarve.com and will start from Estoi Palace Pousada at 9.30 am and will take about 2.5 to 3 hours. The ride is around 35 to 40 kms. To book a place or donate contact https://rotaryestoipalace.org/polio/ or shirley.d@rotaryestoipalace.org or https://www.facebook.com/activityalgarvebikerides/
